Feiyi Cheng captures Men’s 50m backstroke gold – 2012 Chinese National Swimming Championships
Feiyi Cheng of Liaoning captured gold medal of the Men’s 50m backstroke on second day of the 2012 Chinese National Long Course Swimming Championship in Huangshan, Anhui Province on Monday, September 24.
Cheng went on a rampage in the shortest backstroke discipline and upset his competitors by claiming victory in the event. With his quickest response to the start, he gained a slight lead over his opponents and showed his urgency towards the finishing wall
for gold medal.
He faced tough competition from his strongest rival in the initial 25 metres of the swim but with his relentless efforts in the second half, Cheng proved his supremacy for the crown.
He stayed in a lead of two strokes over his toughest competitors and hit the wall for gold medal by producing a time of 25.37 seconds.
Meanwhile, the crowd witnessed exhausting efforts of Jiayu Xu of Zhejiang and Xiaolei Sun of Shanghai, who involved each other in a neck-to-neck race for second position.
The duo remained 0.30 seconds slower from the champion and reached the finishing wall for silver medal with the same timing of 25.67 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Yongqing Lin of Liaoning, who stayed 0.03 seconds slower and clocked an effort of 25.70 seconds.
After that, the arena saw furious efforts of Xiaoxuan Luan of Shandong in the Women’s 200m backstroke. Luan dominated the playoff of the distant backstroke discipline in an easy manner and secured top spot on the podium for the crown.
She remained half body length ahead of her closest swimmer and tapped the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 11.72 seconds.
She was trailed by Yali Liao of Hunan, who ended her race in second best place by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 12.10 seconds.
Liao was followed by Yuan Li of Henan, who remained 0.69 seconds away from improving her position and touched the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 12.79 seconds for bronze medal.
In addition, Cheng and Luan expressed happiness over their title claiming efforts and received medals after the session.
