Felder/ Grilli sail past Duran/ Molteni in semi final – Ciudad de Guayaquil CH 2011
Second seeded Ecuadorian Marcel Felder with Brazilian Rodrigo Grilli thumped past the Argentinean couple of Guillermo Duran with Andres Molteni in the semi final of the Ciudad de Guayaquil Challenger 2011.
On Thursday the 24th of November 2011, the crews took up the swords on clay courts of the Guayaquil Tennis Club in Guayaquil, Ecuador and it took the second seeded Ecuadorian/ Brazilian duo only sixty four minutes to oust the Argentinean
couple by whipping them in straight sets of 6-1, 6-3.
Both the sets were dominated by the second seeded pair and overall in the match they had drilled a better first serve share of 71 percent compared to 54 percent of Duran/ Molteni’s first serve. Moreover, Felder/ Grilli accomplished
a walloping 75 percent win on their first service points and even managed to save a hundred percent of their breakpoints.
Although they had an average return, they still expertly bagged a 52 percent of their total return points and by capitalizing on a 50 percent of breakpoints won; the second seeded team bagged almost twice as many points as their
adversaries.
Moreover, the second seeded couple not only bagged all of their respective service games in the opening round but also  most of their opponents’ service games and they secured the opening round with a breadstick victory to take
the competitive edge in the match.
The second set was commenced by Felder/ Grilli and the players locked into a mouse and cat chase from the very beginning in the set. The two squads matched a blow for a blow and the score kept tied for the first six games and the
last time the score balanced out was at three games each.
During the second set the second seeded players were not even broken once during the entire set and although they had a poor return, their assertive style and technique in their service game alleviated their total score at the
end.
However, in the seventh game Duran/ Molteni were unable to hold their respective serve and gifted away a pivotal breakpoint to their adversaries. Mean while, the second seeded Ecuadorian/ Brazilian benefitted from a game and with
a hold of serve in the eighth game, they were a game away from sealing their victory.
The desiderated break came in the last game and they eventually bottled their victory to reserve a spot in the final clash for the title where they will be facing either the Argentinean couple of Guido Pella with Martin Alund or
the Ecuadorian wildcard entrants Júlio César Campozano with Roberto Quiroz.
