Felder/Schwartzman knock out Alund/Aranguren in final eight – Uruguay Open 2011 CH
The team of Marcel Felder (Uruguay) and Diego Schwartzman (Argentina) successfully made their way into the semi finals after comprehensively beating the Argentinean pair of Martin Alund and Juan-Martin Aranguren.
Both two teams played the quarterfinals of the men’s doubles competition at the 2011 Uruguay Open on November 16, 2011. Felder/Schwartzman won the match in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. They were in control from the start of the match
and retained their upper hand until the end. As the first set started, none of the two teams could score an ace. They were playing controlled shots, which is the reason they did not concede any double faults either. Alund/Aranguren had a 58% first serve percentage
while Felder/Schwartzman secured a 65% ratio.
Alund/Aranguren were behind their opponents and could not recover their stance, which made them trail behind throughout the match. Felder/Schwartzman won 65% points from their first serve and 60% points from their second. They
used their service games to propel themselves in the lead. The Argentinian pair could save three of their breakpoints from the six they faced. Had they saved more points, they might have some chance of winning their games and getting close to their opponents.
On the other hand, Felder/Schwartzman saved one out of their two breakpoints. They did not let their opponents take any more opportunity in breaking their serves. 25-year old Alund and his partner, 28-year old Aranguren could only
win one game in the set as they could not utilize any chance to take a lead. Their service games were also wobbly for they looked like a team not playing with a proper chemistry.
The Argentinean pair should have tried to break their opponents’ service games but could not do so entirely. Felder/Schwartzman won the first set 6-1. Entering into the second set, Alund/Aranguren got an 86% first serve winning
ratio, higher than Felder/Schwartzman’s 77%, but they had a lower serve ratios, which gave their opponents in retaining the lead in the second set. The Argentinean pair won only 32% points from their first serve but increased it by winning 67% from their second
serve. On the other hand, Felder/Schwartzman won 60% points from their first serve and 50% from their second serve.
Alund/Aranguren could not win any breakpoint as they had a chance to save them thrice in the set. Their opponents, Felder/Schwartzman, won two out of the three breakpoints which they faced. The team from Argentina would have wanted
to win the second set to equalize the match, but their hopes were shattered when they could only win two games as they faced resistance from their opponents. Felder/Schwartzman won the second set 6-2 and cruised into the semi finals of the tournament.
