Feliciano Lopez undoes Denis Matsukevitch in 2nd round – Seguros Bolivar Open Bogota 2011 CH
The Columbian ATP challenger has been the open ground for upcoming tennis players. Playing for the first time against each other, world No. 28 Feliciano Lopez opened up his 2nd round match against the Russian international
Denis Matsukevitch in a three set match to victory.
The left handed Spanish sensation has played numerous matches on clay making him a clay specialist. Winning 8 out of the last 10 matches played, Lopez had the perfect form to play his 2nd round against the Russian.
Denis, currently world No. 244, has totalled 540 matches in his tennis career altogether. Unluckily the Russian had not quite been much of a problem for the top players. Losing 6 of the last 10 matches he played, Denis struggled
in his fixture against the Spaniard as well.
Kicking off with the opener, Lopez made his first run 1-0. Following Lopez, the Russian won his first game of the match and set 1. The World No.28 dominated in the next three games with a breakpoint win to lead the set 4-1. With
2 games away for the set win, Lopez win on his respective serve leading him to win the first set 6-3. As the Russian international struggled, he succeeded in totalling only 18 points out of 45 in the first set including 15 service points and only 3 returns.
The second set started off with a breakpoint to Lopez followed by a severe beating to 4-0. However, Denis managed to make a comeback and changed the score cards to 5-4 with a breakpoint in game 18 but that was the last of the match.
Lopez won the following game, set and the match 6-3, 6-4 to make it to the next round of the Bogota Open 2011.
The overall stats of the match were much convincing for the Spaniard to analyse his performance. Lopez won 22 out of 27 points on first serve and 18 of 24 on the second. His total winning points included of 40 service points and
27 returners making a total of 67 over the Russians 49. Struggling on his serve, Denis had 4 double faults and could not save as many breakpoints giving the Spaniard a comfortable win in the 2nd round.
Feliciano is currently the No.1 seed of the event and will play the winner of the match between Victor Estrella and Joao Souza in the 3rd round match of the Bogota Challenger 2011.
