Felicity Johnson posts her second LET win at the Lacoste Ladies Open de France – Golf news
England’s Felicity Johnson overpowered Italian golfer, Diana Luna in the final round of the Lacoste Ladies Open de France on a heat soaked day at the Paris International Golf Club. Luna, who was also the runner-up in last year’s event was defeated by Trish
Johnson then. She suffered another close encounter again this week, when the Italian victory fell short of just one stroke.
The 24-year-old Englishwoman pulled in her second Ladies European Tour victory and a winner’s share of €37,500. The final round turned out to be a close match between Johnson and much weathered Luna, who was successful in pushing for a Playoff at the last
moment.
Johnson said, “I don’t think it was the best golf you’ll see all day. I didn’t hit the best drive and then an awful pitch but I hit a really good long putt and was really pleased with that.”
The playoff turned out to be a little too tricky for Luna who shot her approach into a fairway bunker while Johnson easily two-putted from 45 feet.
A dejected Luna said, “It’s a little disappointing because today I didn’t play my best golf. I managed to put together two under which was really not my best round of golf. I’ve been hitting the ball not so well and she has been hitting the ball well I guess
because she had a great score and totally deserved it.”
Minea Blomqvist of Finland finished for an outright second with her final round of 67, while Lucie Andre and Kaisa Ruuttila finished further back for a joint fourth.
Johnson has come a long away in her arduous struggle to make her mark among other giants. She won the Tenerife Ladies Open in 2009 and hoped that the breakthrough would lead to more victories, something which did not happen. Her victory in France will go
a long way in motivating her to forge ahead for more victories.
LET will now move to its next event on the calendar, the Sicilian Ladies Italian Open at the scenic Il Picciolo Golf Club from October 7-9. The event has a total purse of
€200,000.
