Question:

Feline worm identification

I'm wondering how I can identify different types of worms in cats. Pinworm, hookworm, and tapeworm (and roundworm, if it can come out of the a**s, but I'm not sure if it does or not). I found a worm in my cat's stool and I'm not sure which one it is. I would like to know how to spot and tell the difference between all three, as opposed to someone just saying "your cat has __"... That way I'm prepared in the future.

I found two worms in the stool, about a quarter inch long and they were contracting and expanding. They were white.

Also, is Nemex an effective medication for all types of worms, or just certain ones?

  1. You need to take your cat to the vet ASAP!!!!!                                                         Let the vet see what your cat has, that way  you can get the right medication for the worms.

  2. I have seen both roundworms and tapeworms at the clinic I work at. Roundworms are very big and look like regular worms but a little smaller and thinner. If they are alive they will whip around like crazy. Tapeworms are very small and white and are slow moving.. Google them and I bet you can identify the worms easily.

    I also recommend Panacur.

  3. Google for the worms and I use Panacur wormiing treatment that my vet gives me.

  4. You just need to go to the vet,  There are so many different kinds of worms, there is really very little way to know.

  5. Sounds like tapeworm. It's frequently described as looking like a grain (or grains) of rice. A whole tapeworm is quite long but their body is segmented and they break off into lots of little pieces. My cats and dogs have had these from time to time. They can be spread by flea bites from infected animal to another animal.

Hookworms and roundworms look something like rubber bands.

Nemex is for treating roundworms and hookworms in dogs and puppies.
