Felipe Alves Franca Silva clinches Men’s 100m breaststroke gold – Jose Finkel Trophy
Felipe Alves Franca Silva of ECP/SABESP clinched gold medal of the Men’s 100m breaststroke on third day of the 2012 Jose Finkel Trophy in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Wednesday, August 22.
Silva remained in a comfortable lead over his opponents in the first round but faced tough battle from Felipe Ferreira Lima of FIAT/MINAS in the second round. Nevertheless, with his continuous efforts, he dominated his way to the wall for first position
and managed to edge out Lima for the title of the event.
His alluring effort remained just a touch away from his closest challenger as he tapped the wall for gold medal with a timing of 58.17 seconds.
On the other hand, Lima remained just 0.09 seconds slower from occupying the crown of the event and settled on the finishing blockade for silver medal with an effort of 58.26 seconds.
The silver medallist was followed by Henrique Marques Barbosa of CRF/RJ, who was 0.36 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and posted a time of 58.62 seconds for bronze medal.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Tales Rocha Cerdeira of CRF/RJ, who stayed only 0.08 seconds slower from the third fastest swimmer and clocked a time of 58.70 seconds.
Cerdeira was trailed by Joao Luiz Gomes Junior of ECP/SABESP, who remained only 0.02 seconds slower and secured fifth position of the race by producing a time of 58.72 seconds.
Similarly, Gomes Junior was traced by his teammate, Raphael Oliveira Rodrigues, who secured sixth fastest spot of the swim by producing a time of 58.74 seconds.
Seventh finest spot of the race was obtained by Angelito Cassandra of ECP/SABESP, who remained full body length apart and hit the wall with a timing of 59.66 seconds.
Cassandra was chased by Thiago M Parravicini of CRF/RJ, who remained only 1.11 seconds behind and finished his race in eighth best place by reporting a time of 1 minute and 00.77 seconds.
In addition, Silva was happy with his gold finish and said that he would continue his hard work to achieve the same at higher levels of swimming.
