Felipe Franca wins Men’s 100m breast-stroke title: Day two – 2011 Pan American Games
Brazilian athlete, Felipe Franca thrashed out his rivals, Felipe Lima and Marcus Titus of United States at the 2011 Pan American Games, in Guadalajara, Mexico, on Sunday, October 16. The session of the meet conducted the Men’s 100m breast-stroke event.
Franca began the final race in animated fashion and knocked out his rivals, Lima and Titus by powering the finishing wall with a record breaking mark of 1 minute and 00.34 seconds to win the 100m breast-stroke title. More importantly, Felipe Franca fell
short of Mark Gangloff’s previous best meet record of 1 minute and 00.24 seconds, which he set back in 2007.
Franca was the gold medallist in the 50m breast-stroke meet at the 2011 FINA World Championships, in Shanghai. In addition, he won gold medal in the respective event at the 2010 World Championship edition, in Dubai. Moreover, he claimed one gold medal in
50m breast-stroke at the 2010 Pan Pacific Championships, in Irvine.
In the meantime, Felipe Franca’s compatriot, Felipe Lima earned silver medal by submitting a thrilling time of 1 minute and 00.99 seconds. That swim fell short of his previous best meet record of 1 minute and 00.46 seconds, which he set back in May, 2011.
Marcus Titus claimed bronze medal by posting a time of 1 minute and 01.12 seconds.
United States’ Kevin Swander picked fourth position by submitting an impressive time of 1 minute and 01.17 seconds, while Panama's Edgar Roberto Crespo settled for fifth place with a mark of 1 minute and 03.08 seconds. Meanwhile, Uruguay's Martin Melconian
gave his best attempt and earned sixth position in the respective race by submitting a time of 1 minute and 03.10 seconds.
In addition, Jorge Mario Murillo of Colombia earned seventh place honours with a spot of 1 minute and 03.11 seconds. Finally, David Oliver of Mexico settled for eighth place with a time of 1 minute and 03.63 seconds.
The impressive swim of Brazilian athlete, Felipe Franca impressed the arena and the top three players were awarded medals and accolades after the session’s completion.
