Felipe Massa: Ferrari have progressed well but Mercedes real threat – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Felipe Massa has said that although Ferrari have taken a big step forward in development, yet the Mercedes team has become a rising threat.
The Brazilian said that Mercedes have brought some upgrades which did pay off in the practice sessions.
Felipe Massa and his teammate Fernando Alonso again failed to gain some respect on the Turkish Grand Prix track as both finished behind the first five drivers.
Massa stated that Ferrari have improved their development process to a big extent. He said, “For sure the new parts [on the Ferrari] work, this is really clear. Everything we put on the car we saw a performance improvement, and I have the feeling that we
have got a little bit closer to the other cars like McLaren and Red Bull.”
The Brazilian added that their upgrades are not competitive enough in the upcoming Turkish Grand Prix. He further added that the Ferrari team will fight for the podiums as soon as the car is ready.
However, the Brazilian also said that the Mercedes team has solved its problems which make Ferrari’s task a bit tough.
“But it is also true that Mercedes is maybe a team that made a big step. They were competitive here. They did a very, very good step. We will wait and see in qualifying, but Mercedes looks very competitive,” added Massa.
The Mercedes team has put up a good show in the Free Practice sessions and have been in the top five in all the three sessions. In the final Free Practice session, Mercedes’ Michael Schumacher was only 0.001 seconds behind Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel, who
was the fastest in FP3.
Schumacher’s run in the final Practice session means that the Mercedes team are up and running for some points in the Turkish Grand Prix. For the moment, the Turkish Grand Prix Qualifiers are going to take place shortly and Ferrari will try their level best
to overcome their woes and try hard in the Qualifiers.
