Felipe Massa: Timesheets do not matter during pre-season test sessions – Formula 1 news
Felipe Massa surprisingly topped the time sheets at the first day of the second pre-season test session in Jerez and many believed that it is because he is getting a hand of the new Ferrari F150 but he himself recently stated that these results don’t matter
at all and he does not care much about them.
Felipe scored a time 7 tenths faster than the rest of the pack but this does not mean anything at all according to the Brazilian as he believes that most of the teams were trying to gather some specific data for their new cars and as a result, they were
not pushing too much and neither was he.
“The fastest time? It doesn't mean anything, because we don't know what trim the other drivers were running,” he said.
However, the Brazilian is pleased with his car’s performance and he believes that the team can squeeze a lot more out of their new car. Ferrari was the first team to reveal its car as they launched it on the 28th of January before
the first pre-season test session which took place in Valencia where most of the teams revealed their new cars.
“I am pleased with today. I was able to run continuously, without losing any valuable time. All those kilometres helped me get to know the car better and especially the tyres, an area where we were able to try different things to those we did in Valencia,”
he added.
Felipe had a disastrous 2010 Formula 1 season as he was unable to compete with the top running drivers even though his teammate Fernando Alonso was one of the toughest competitors for the title using the very same car.
Massa has been criticised a lot for his 2010 performance but he claims that the tyre compounds Bridgestone introduced for the 2010 season did not suit him and as a result, he was unable to perform up to the mark.
The Brazilian was unable to secure a single win in the previous season and was almost 100 points behind the top five drivers who were competing for the drivers’ title in 2010.
Nevertheless, Massa is confident about the upcoming season. Other than that, he wished Renault’s Robert Kubica, who went through a horrifying accident during a rally event and is going to miss the 2011 Formula 1 season as a result, a healthy recovery.
“I am glad Robert is getting better: it was nice that we all had a note for him on our cars and again I wish all the very best,” said Massa.
The second day of testing in Jerez is going to be interesting and it would be great to see how the other teams perform as compared to Ferrari.
