Felipe Massa admires his race engineer Rob Smedley – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Felipe Massa has admired the efforts of his race engineer, Rob Smedley who helped him in resolving the issues which he faced during the start of the season.
Massa has been seen struggling with finding his true pace as he could only score two points in the first five grands prix. Nonetheless, he made quite a convincing comeback in the sixth race held at Circuit de Monaco in Monte Carlo in which he secured 6th
place finish after setting off from 7th grid position.
Conversely, he faced difficulties in the last two races again and could only score 1 point. However, he expressed that he is feeling strong and comfortable behind the wheel of F2012 while he gave credit to Smedley for all his support.
“I've worked with Rob since 2006, starting with him as my race engineer at the Nurburgring,” Massa told the Ferrari website. “After all this time, he knows exactly what I want and need from a car and he understands everything about my driving style. This
year, for example, the first few races were a bit difficult, but from then on we changed direction in some areas and now, the work in terms of finding the right set-up at every track seems much more automatic. At this point of the season I feel much stronger
thanks to this.”
Additionally, he said that he is aiming to score some reasonable points in each and every race ahead so as to make his position stronger in this year’s championship fight. He also said that he is confidently looking forward to perform well in the British
GP which is to be held at Silverstone Circuit on July 8.
Presently, the Brazilian driver is at 16th position in the drivers’ championship with 11 points. Furthermore, he is 7 points ahead of Jean-Eric Vergne of Toro Rosso and 5 points behind Bruno Senna of Williams.
On the other hand, his teammate, Fernando Alonso is currently leading the drivers’ championship with 111 points and is 20 points ahead of Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing.
Meanwhile, the Scarlet team is at fourth place in the constructors’ rankings with 122 points. Besides, they are 30 points ahead of Mercedes and just 4 points behind Lotus. Let’s see how the season ahead turns out for the Italian team.
