Felipe Massa admits two-stop strategy was wrong in the Chinese Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
A recent report revealed that Formula 1 Ferrari driver Felipe Massa has admitted that his two-stop strategy in the Chinese Grand Prix was wrong.
He also mentioned that he would have used a three-stop strategy during the race for the team’s better results than his sixth-place finish in Shanghai.
Massa had a strong start to the Chinese Grand Prix, but despite of his showing he was a little upset by his race results on Sunday. The 29-year-old Brazilian made an impressive run over the races, held in Australia and Malaysia. For the Chinese race, he
expected more than before, but failed to deliver his best run against the top runners of the course.
He said, “I'm very, very happy with my performance. It was the best race for me this year - one of the best compared to last year as well. It's a shame because we could have finished in the top, and it was not possible.”
He also discussed Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel’s performance and said, “Even the guy who dominated the race, which was Vettel, didn't win because of his strategy, which was the same as mine. It shows that we didn't pick the right one. My pace on the soft
was great, even similar to Sebastian, and we took that as a consideration that maybe we were able to do one less stop.”
Massa did his best job in the race, but still he is not much happy as he thinks it is not enough for him to win the 2011 title.
On the other hand, Massa’s teammate Fernando Alonso did not blame the two-stop strategy, since he considers different strategies would not have changed anything in the race. Alonso finished his seventh fastest run of the race, behind Massa and got six points
for Ferrari.
He admitted that he lost his too much time behind the Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher after the opening laps. As a result of again finding him during the last laps, he lost his touch with the leading group of the race.
After the Chinese GP, Ferrari are looking for a podium position in the upcoming race of the 2011 season, which will take place on May, 8, 2011 in Turkey.
