Felipe Massa aiming for his first victory since his return to Formula 1 in 2010 – Formula 1 news
Ferrari’s Felipe Massa has recently stated that he is aiming to score at least a victory in 2011 as he has not been able to win a single race since he returned to the sport in 2010.
“So now we come to the final eight races of the season. Which means there is still a lot of racing ahead of us and I agree with Domenicali that, as a team, we should simply try and win as many races as possible and score plenty of points, without looking
too closely at the championship situation,” he said.
Massa went through a near-fatal accident during the 2009 Hungarian Grand Prix as a result of which he was not able to compete for the rest of the 2009 Formula 1 season which was quite disappointing for Ferrari.
He returned in 2010 though and since then, he has been struggling to perform as a result of which he has been criticised a lot and it is believed that he might not even stay with Ferrari in 2012 until or unless he secures some good results.
“Certainly from a personal point of view, my most immediate aim is to try and record my first victory of this year. It's not going to be an easy few months, but we are certainly not going to give up,” he added.
Despite the fact that Ferrari are still competing for the drivers’ title in 2011, the team recently announced that they are going to shift their focus to their 2012 car as they have achieved the limit of their 2011 car pretty much as a result of which they
will not develop the car majorly.
Either way even if the team secures a good car for the 2012 Formula 1 season, the team must admit by this point that they need two strong drivers who can secure podiums at almost each race. That is not the case with Ferrari at the moment as Felipe Massa
is way behind in terms of pace compared to his teammate Fernando Alonso.
