Felipe Massa believes Ferrari F2012 is on the right track to improvement – Formula 1 news
Felipe Massa said that the Ferrari is finally coming close to what the management intended its performance to be like.
He said that the development of the car is going in the right direction as he felt quite comfortable in the car during the second pre-season test on Friday.
Ferrari endured quite a bit of problems from the start of the first pre-season test. Massa drove the car for the first time and instantly said that the car was hard to handle and required quite a bit of work before it can be termed as the final product.
Fernando Alonso also had trouble with the car and both the drivers and the management were clearly worried over the cars behaviour. Ferrari at the backdrop of a dismal season performance in 2011 started working on their new F2012 mid-way through the 2011
season. The early start was taken for the very reason of getting more time to develop and prepare the car for a much-improved campaign in the 2012 season.
Massa seemed very happy with the way the car behaved on Friday and is hoping that it can now can work on its performance during the third and final pre-season test next week at the same venue.
“Until this morning it was quite difficult,” he said when asked how the car was to drive. “It was very difficult to find the right limit and it was so easy to pass the limit as well. I think the afternoon was a completely different direction.”
“So many years we have arrived at the first test and the car was always working perfectly or at least there were not so many directions to follow. This year we have so many directions and possibilities the most important thing was to find the right one,”
he added.
It will be interesting to see how Ferrari takes their progress from this point ahead towards the season. The competitiveness between the top teams is getting closer and closer with each passing test as Red Bull, McLaren and possibly Lotus and Mercedes look
to be probable top five contenders to bid for the world title.
