Felipe Massa believes he can finish in the top five in 2012 – Formula 1 news
Felipe Massa has said that he aiming to finish in the top five of the drivers’ Championship standings in the current year.
The gap at the top has widened quite a bit yet the Brazilian believes that if he can come up with the results consistently there is a chance for him to finish in the top five.
Massa started his 2012 season in utter dismay partly due to the Ferrari car that lacked traction and straight-line pace and partly due to the nerves from his previous poor performances.
Massa however has said that the drivers’ championship is still very important to him and while he admitted that it is going to be a difficult ordeal to come in the top five.
“For sure, the drivers' is still important to me,” Massa said on Ferrari's website. “Looking at where I was just before Silverstone, I am aware that are a lot of points still available over the coming eleven races. It is very important for me and I want
to fight to get back into the top six or top five.”
“That might be a difficult target to achieve, but you always need to set yourself a hard challenge. In addition, the Constructors' Championship is very important to us and the better I do in the drivers' the more I help Ferrari,” he added.
Massa was adamant that he wants to keep the momentum going for him as he performed well at Silverstone finishing 4th in the race easily his best result of the season. His improved performance has a lot to do with the improvements in the car as well as Ferrari
has clearly updated the car enough to challenge the top teams of the season
Massa said that his season bid could have been better if his car had not spun at Montreal and the floor issue had not come up at Valencia.
He said he is focused on performing well in the current season and whatever happens in the backdrop is not a problem if he can keep on performing the way he did at Valencia.
It will be interesting to see if Massa will be able to maintain his good showing in the coming races.
