Felipe Massa believes he could have attained better result in 2012 Singapore GP – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Felipe Massa has said that he could have attained better result in the 2012 Singapore Grand Prix if he hadn’t faced a tyre puncture in the first lap.
Massa struggled during the qualifying and could not make his way into the final session. Later on, although he took a tremendous start from the 13th grid slot in the night race held at Marina Bay Street Circuit and gained some early positions.
However, he could only secure 8th place finish in the end as his tyre was punctured in the opening lap due to which he lost some crucial time.
Moreover, the Brazilian driver said that he was quite surprised with his race pace after facing some difficulties during the free practice and the qualifying.
Even though, he said that he was quite upset over the tyre puncture, nevertheless, he said that he is feeling contended with his 8th position which he managed to secure even after the unpleasant incident.
“Apart from all the problems I had yesterday not to be able to make a lap, but today it was completely the opposite,” Massa said. “The car was very good; I was able to have good pace all through the race. Looking at what happened at start I was almost one
lap down and then when I was on track I was able to be one of quickest cars on track.”
In addition, he said that he is very happy for his teammate, Fernando Alonso who secured an incredible third podium finish in the race. Though, he said that he is pleased with his result in the preceding race but he said that if he had not encountered with
the problem, he could have scored more points for his team along with the Spaniard.
“I think that was very positive to arrive in eighth, I'm sure without this problem in first corner it would have been a great race for me and for Fernando,” he added.
Above and beyond, he said that he is confidently looking forward to deliver his best in the remaining grands prix and is targeting to secure a reasonable position in this year’s championship.
