Felipe Massa blames imbalanced Ferrari for qualifying in 7th place at Interlagos – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Felipe Massa said that he was unable to find the perfect balance for his car during the qualifiers of the 2011 Brazilian Grand Prix.
Massa explained that the car imbalance had made it very difficult for him to control and drive the car, as he made his way to seventh grid position for the race on Sunday. Although the Brazilian said that he was disappointed at the result but conceded that
the car made a better showing very hard.
The Ferrari driver has been under some pressure lately. He has not been able to drive up to his potential throughout the season, and has always been able to find a reason to blame his poor showing. The 2011 season has been marred by run-ins with Hamilton.
Although just a fortnight before the Brazilian Grand Prix weekend, team President Luca di Montezemolo said that Massa would need to start performing if he is to keep his race seat secured after 2012 at Ferrari. That is why Massa will be looking to end the
season on a high so that he can relieve some pressure before starting the 2012 season.
Although it is quite true that the Scarlet car is not as competitive as the Red Bull or the McLarens, but his teammate Fernando Alonso has still been able to do much better in the season. That puts even more pressure on the Brazilian to perform better in
front of his home crowd.
“I was expecting more from this final qualifying of the year and I definitely cannot be happy with this seventh place,” Massa said. “Unfortunately, we were unable to find the right balance throughout the weekend. In some corners I was locking up the front
and in the slower ones I suffered with under-steer, in others I lacked traction: all in all, the car was rather difficult to drive.”
Even though placed at seventh with very stiff competition ahead, Massa’s goal for a top three finish has not been altered. That sets up the race on Sunday, November 27, 2011 very nicely, as Massa will want to move up the table.
