Felipe Massa calls qualifying the decisive factor
The Ferrari driver, Felipe Massa believes that now the title chase would be easier for the team that would be able to do better in the qualifying.
With only two more races to go, the battle for the title has become even more intense and dramatic than it had been ever before. The entire 2010 season has unfolded in a very surprising and thrilling manner. Now, though there are only 50 more points to play
for in the last two rounds, yet the title winner remains so uncertain. The chances of all the four drivers, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari, Red Bull’s Mark Webber, Lewis Hamilton of McLaren and the other Red Bull driver, Sebastian Vettel seems equally bright.
Moreover, though the chances of Jensen Button seem pretty dull, yet he believes that mathematically he is still in the tug and is reluctant to give up the fight up till the very last race in Abu Dhabi.
In a close competition like this, the next two races are considered to be just as nail-biting and nerve-tickling as the entire season had been. In such a situation, all believe that the driver who would make the least mistakes on the track now would be able
to stand tall finally at the end of the last round. Moreover, the next race in Brazil is also expected to be just equally filled with action and exhilaration as the last round in Korea had been. The Brazilian track is also predicted to see rain and storm making
the second last round jam-packed with action and thrill.
As teams tailor their strategies and cook their plans, the Ferrari driver reckons that qualifying would play the most decisive role, as seen in most of the races this year. He sees the Red Bull to be their strongest rival, so he thinks that a strong grid
position would be necessary for Ferrari to beat them up.
The Ferrari team saw very lulled and laid back mid-season as there was a point when the current charts’ topper, Fernando Alonso stood 47 points adrift the top of the tally. However, since the team came roaring back in the contention at the German Grand Prix,
there has been no stopping them. At one after the other arena the team kept proving a great pace, form and spirit. The determined Spaniard now stands at the top of the tally with an advantage of 11 points over the Red Bull driver, Mark Webber who has slipped
down to second place after the Korean Grand Prix. With already some victories under his belt, Alonso now confidently enters the Brazilian Grand Prix with his eyes strongly glued to the third title of his career.
The last weekend’s Korean grand Prix was a very encouraging race for the Ferraris. Alonso’s fifth victory of the season and Massa’s third-place finish has further firmed the team’s position for both the championships. Although, Massa still thinks that Ferrari
is less likely to get hands on both the Constructors’ title, yet, he believes that the drives’ Championship is not very far away from them.
The Brazilian wrote on his official website this Thursday, “Ferrari's chances in both championships now look much better than before we tackled these last three Asian races.”
He further concluded saying, “Looking at the championships, it is still possible for the team in the constructors' and Fernando has moved into the lead in the drivers', so we are in with a fighting chance. We still need to work hard to prepare for the final
two rounds and clearly, we know we must try and improve our performance on Saturday afternoons. Qualifying is still our weak point although you have to take into account how strong the Red Bulls are over one lap.”
