Felipe Massa claims Ferrari targeting battle with McLaren at Singapore Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Ferrari’s Felipe Massa has recently stated after the Friday practice sessions that his team is targeting a battle with the McLaren team at the Singapore Grand Prix this weekend.
“I think we are in better shape than at the last two races and, who knows maybe we can fight with the McLarens, but we must wait and see what happens tomorrow. The performance difference between the Soft and Supersoft today seemed very high, especially for
us, but that's not to say it will be the same on Saturday: the track will rubber in and the situation could change,” Massa said.
Fernando Alonso finished in 2nd place in the timesheets of the second free practice session just around 8 tenths of a second short of Sebastian Vettel’s fastest time of the day. It was a very good run from the team but the Spaniard
claims that they must stay realistic and played down their chances of winning the race this weekend.
Massa finished as the 4th quickest driver and was just 5 thousandths of a second slower than Lewis Hamilton’s time. This is a very good sign for the team as the Brazilian driver is also looking quite comfortable but nothing can
be predicted until the qualifying session of the Singapore Grand Prix as the teams will try their best to improve their pace at the final free practice session this weekend.
The Brazilian driver has not been able to secure a single victory since his return to the sport in 2010 but still his seat has been secured for the 2012 Formula 1 season at least after which it is believed that the team will finally replace him.
Red Bull Racing are looking strong as always once again and it seems that Vettel might take the win to secure his 2nd world title in the sport this weekend.
The constructors’ championship on the other hand cannot be sealed this weekend and the 2nd place in the drivers’ standings is uncertain.
