Felipe Massa confident Ferrari will perform strongly in upcoming race weekends – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Felipe Massa has said that he is confident for his team that they will perform strongly on the grid in the remainder of the 2011 Formula 1 season after a successful British Grand Prix recently.
Massa also mentioned that he believes Ferrari have a competitive car now, which can take the fight to Red Bull Racing in the upcoming race weekends of the ongoing season.
The Brazilian discussed the Silverstone race weekend and said, “In the last few races our pace in the race was better than in qualifying, while in Silverstone we were quick in both situations.”
He went on to add, “In qualifying, I finished third in Q1 with the hard tyres, and that shows that the car is very competitive. I am sure this improvement will stand us in good stead for the second half of the season.”
The 30-year-old driver further said that the team had a good experience with the hard compounds at the Silverstone racetrack. The Maranello-based outfit driver took a poor start to the season, as he was unable to deliver his positive run on the grid among
the strong rivals.
Massa blamed his car’s slow pace for his disappointing run in the initial races of the ongoing season.
Apart from that, the Ferrari driver praised the performance of his teammate Fernando Alonso in Silverstone, where he achieved his race victory for the first time in this season. Massa ended up at the fifth place after a close fight with McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton
and Mercedes GP’s Nico Rosberg.
Massa added that although Alonso caught Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel in the British Grand Prix, it is still difficult to beat Vettel in the 2011 Formula 1 drivers’ championship.
After his win in Silverstone, Alonso is still far behind from Vettel with a gap of 92 points in the championship.
Following a positive race weekend at the Silverstone race circuit, Ferrari are hoping that Alonso will retain his current position in the remainder of the season.
Let’s see how he manages his race at the upcoming German Grand Prix, scheduled to be held on July 24, 2011 in Nürburgring.
