Felipe Massa confident ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Felipe feels that the team has done well so far and are heading in the right direction ahead of the Canadian GP.
Felipe Massa has had a horrid season so far and has been marred by problems with the car. Although the Brazilian has blamed the car for most of his woes this season but he has not been able to perform since the previous season.
His poor run of form has led to the team President Luca di Montezemolo to warn Massa to come up with performances for this season or face losing his race seat with the team beyond 2012.
The calls for his ouster have also grown over the span of the 2012 season so far. The only hope left for Massa is to come up with consistent performances to improve the overall standing of the team. If he can help the team win the Constructors’ Championship
only then can there be a case strong enough for him to hope to retain his race seat.
Massa said after the qualifiers that he is pleased with the progress he has made over the weekend, and starting the race from sixth is a positive sign. He admitted that he is somewhat disappointed with the last lap of the qualifiers and said that he could
have done better to move up.
He hopes to do well at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit. He said that the strategy will play a role as well. The team might look to go for either one or two stop strategy.
He said, “We hope to make up some places and bring home a good result. On my helmet I have the name Gilles Villeneuve as a tribute to the memory of a driver who was part of Ferrari history: I am very proud of being able to pay homage to him in the year that
marks the thirtieth anniversary of his death. Even if I was only just born when the accident happened, I have always been a big fan of his.”
It will be an interesting battle for Massa to overcome his earlier disappointments and come up with the result in Canada.
