Felipe Massa confused over gap to Fernando Alonso at 2012 Malaysian GP – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Felipe Massa says that the team has not been able to understand the reason for the huge gap of 15 positions in the performances of its drivers at 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix held at the Sepang International Circuit on Sunday.
Massa’s teammate, Fernando Alonso took an incredible victory in the second race whereas the Brazilian driver dropped off from eighth to fifteenth place finish due to the issues of tyre degradation and extra stop at pit even after having quite a strong start.
Nevertheless, Massa said that he was upset with his performance at Sepang, afterwards.
“Obviously I am disappointed with my result,” Massa said. “Things were going well at the start and I was able to fight with the drivers directly ahead of me. When the track was drying, I suffered more and more with tyre degradation and I could not maintain
a good pace. We opted to follow what Rosberg was doing ahead of me, as he too was apparently struggling with his tyres, but it did not work out and we lost a lot of time with this extra stop, given also that the others stayed on track for around a dozen laps
more before switching to the dry tyres.”
Besides, he said that it was important for the Red team to understand the difference in the performances of the cars of both the drivers.
However, he said that they planned to have more competent cars for the races ahead as soon as possible.
The Scarlet team had given Massa new chassis in the second GP in order to clear all kinds of suspicions regarding his unfortunate performance in the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia last week.
Furthermore, the team principal of Ferrari, Stefano Domenicali expressed that they will provide everything to Massa which he needs to improve his performance.
It would be important to mention that after a struggling pre-season this year, Alonso’s triumph at the second race had created a positive feel for the team as they were looking forward to make the necessary developments and the substantial preparations for
the races ahead.
