Felipe Massa deserves another chance in Ferrari – Formula 1
Ferrari driver, Felipe Massa has faced immense criticism over his uncompetitive form in the opening few races of the 2012 Formula 1 season and has been surrounded by many rumours that his team is looking forward to replace him in 2013.
Massa’s contract with the Scarlet team is going to end at the conclusion of this season and his future in the team is still in doubt. There had been a lot of speculations that Sergio Perez of Sauber, who secured an inspiring second podium finish in the Malaysian
Grand Prix, was considered a potential replacement of the Brazilian driver.
Conversely, the team principal, Stefano Domenicali dismissed all the reports and said that they would provide everything to their struggling driver which he may need to improve his performance.
Furthermore, Luca di Montezemolo, the president of the Italian team said that Perez needs to get more experience to join their team. Nonetheless, he admired his talent and called him one of the best youngsters in the sport.
Though, the Mexican driver has been deemed as a probable replacement of Massa for quite a long time. However, he has recently signed a new multi-year contract with McLaren and will race as Jenson Button’s teammate from the next year onwards as their driver,
Lewis Hamilton has decided to move to Mercedes as Michael Schumacher’s replacement who is going to retire at the end of this season. Therefore, the 22-year-old is no more an option for Ferrari now.
The 31-year-old has said that he earnestly wants to know about his future in the team but he said that he is not feeling upset over the uncertainty and is focussing to perform at his best in the remainder of this season.
“Of course my future is important, but right now it's the results that are the most important thing, which means I have to concentrate on each race as it comes,” he told Ferrari's website. “I know what I can do, what I can give to the team and what are my
talents. The team also knows this, because I've been here with them for rather longer than a day or even a year! The best plan is to race without worrying about the future.”
Massa has shown some considerable improvement in his performance during the last few races and he surely deserves another chance in his team.
