Felipe Massa feels satisfied with his result in the 2013 Spanish GP – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Felipe Massa has expressed satisfaction over his third podium finish in the 2013 Spanish Grand Prix despite being unable to catch Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus towards the end.
Massa performed convincingly well in the qualifying at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona but faced a three-place grid penalty because of which he started the race from 9th grid slot. Nevertheless, he delivered an amazing performance in the Spanish
GP and successfully managed to secure third podium finish ahead of the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing.
He was fighting for second podium and was trying to overtake Raikkonen towards the end of the race. But, unfortunately he faced some issues in his tyres because of which he lost his chance to catch up the Finnish driver. Even though, he showed a little bit
of concern over the problems, but overall he showed contentment over his race result.
“It was a great race. I was not happy yesterday after the penalty and the drop of three positions back, but I knew I had a good car, a good pace and the start and the first lap was amazing. I was overtaking cars on the track and I anticipated the first stop
to get ahead of other cars,” he said.
“I was catching Kimi by over one second a lap but then it was not possible when the car started over steering and it was a bit strange to be honest. But it was a great race for all of us." he added.
Besides, he said that they really need to make some essential developments in their car to improve its qualifying pace for the Monaco GP so as to compete well with their rivals and to attain better results to make their position stronger in the championship
fight.
Presently, the Brazilian driver is standing at 5th place in the drivers’ championship with 45 points. In addition, he is ahead of his main rival, Mark Webber of Red Bull and behind Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes.
The competition is going to be even tougher in the forthcoming races. So, it will be really interesting to see how all the contenders perform in the season ahead.
