Felipe Massa finishes another disappointing qualifying at Hockenheim Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Felipe Massa says he is very disappointed over his qualifying performance.
The Brazilian was hoping to keep the momentum he had going in the previous two Grands Prix but it seems he will have to work really hard on race day to get the desired results as he finished 14th.
Massa said that he was not able to manage to do a time at the start of Q2 because he went wide at Turn 8 and hence was not able to put up a good lap in the only window available to him to make an impact.
He added that the tarmac was different at that point on the track and it is usually very easy to lock the wheels there which results in a lot of time loss. The wet weather conditions were not helpful either as he was aquaplaning.
Massa said that he had to try and stay on track while also trying to improve his time but because of the wet weather conditions it became impossible even trying with the extremes.
“It's a real shame, because the car was and is competitive, both in the wet and in the dry, but tomorrow I will start too far back to fight for the top places. I will do my very best, as always. It will be important to choose the right tyres at the right
moment: we have some idea, but it's a fact we were unable to do many long runs over these two days,” he said.
Massa’s teammate and the leading driver of the season so far Fernando Alonso had a very different qualifying experience as the Spaniard went on to make another pole position for him which puts him in a strong position to claim his third win of the season.
Ferrari will need both their drivers getting points for them if they are to challenge Red Bull for the constructors’ title and for the most part of the season, it has only been Alonso piling up the points to keep the team in contention.
It will be interesting to see whether Massa can redeem himself on the race day and score some vital points for his team.
