Felipe Massa focussing on his own performance – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Felipe Massa has expressed that his focus is on performing at his best for the forthcoming 2012 Formula 1 season setting off at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia this weekend, despite the competitiveness of the new car F2012.
Massa had not been able to score any podium finish since the 2010 Korean Grand Prix which had created a pressure on him for his position in the team while he admitted that he would try to make the most of himself during the season ahead rather than thinking
about the issues of the new car.
“The only thing I can do is to get out of the car 100 percent happy with my performance,” Massa said. “We need to wait and see which car we have and then to give the best performance you can. That's the only thing I'm looking for.”
Ferrari had been facing difficulties with the new car during all the pre-season tests held at Jerez and Barcelona circuits. Moreover, there had been many mixed statements came from different members of the Scarlet team for instance the technical director,
Pat Fry said that they would not be able to fight for a podium finish at the first GP of the approaching season while the Fernando Alonso said that they would struggle during the first few races this year.
However, Massa said that he was looking forward for the season opener and expected that the Red team would perform better than the pre-season testing.
“I'm very excited; racing is what we love to do. Testing is very important but the race is really nice, with the competition and qualifying and everything. I hope we can see a competitive car, more than we saw in the testing which was not what we expected,”
said Massa.
In addition, he said that the first race would provide them with the answer concerning their standing in the championship. He also said that they had seen some contenders to be quite strong during the tests but the time had arrived to put an end to all the
discussions and talks regarding the tests as the race would start off.
