Felipe Massa heads towards Ferrari’s Maranello factory after Malaysian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Felipe Massa has changed his plan of going to his home in Brazil as he moved towards Maranello factory of the Scarlet team after his struggling fifteenth place finish at the 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix.
Massa has not been able to score even a single point in the first two races of the season. However, his teammate, Fernando Alonso took an impressive victory in the rainy conditions at the second GP which gave the Scarlet team a positive feeling for the season
ahead.
Nevertheless, the Spaniard said that they still need to work hard to make the necessary preparations and significant developments in the car in order to improve its performance in normal conditions for the upcoming races.
Furthermore, there have been many speculations regarding the replacement of Massa with Sergio Perez of Sauber-Ferrari who has shown an incredible performance in the second race in which he secured the second podium after following Alonso.
Nonetheless, the team principal of Ferrari, Stefano Domenicali has acted quite supportively in the favour of Massa.
“I well remember that, four years ago, in fact right after a Malaysian Grand Prix, which was won for us by Kimi Raikkonen, Felipe was more or less in the same situation as today. The papers were demanding his immediate replacement and he managed to react
in the best way possible, thanks to support from the team, which saw him win two of the next three races. We remember how that particular season ended, with the Brazilian actually world champion, even if it was just for a few seconds, while we took our sixteenth
Constructors' title,” said Domenicali.
In addition, he said that Massa will be heading towards Maranello to work with the team engineers to find the mistakes occurred in the last couple of races and to eliminate the deficiencies in the performance, instead of going to see his family in Brazil.
He also said that they were prepared to help Massa at any time. Moreover, he said that Alonso’s lead in this year’s championship has changed nothing as they still need to handle some crucial issues.
