Felipe Massa hopeful for Ferrari updates to improve results – Formula 1 news
Felipe Massa is hopeful of Ferrari’s latest upgrades to give him the impetus he needs to move forward in the season.
Massa said that the upgrades are going to be vital in his progression in the standings but admitted that the rival teams will be making the necessary changes as well so the challenge will be immense. He said that the team has made significant changes to
the car.
Ferrari have been troubled throughout the 2012 season, the new car has not lived up to its potential and it has been very disappointing so far. Ferrari did not lag too far behind in terms of points even after coming up with a below par car. Thanks to Fernando
Alonso who managed to spring a win out of nowhere at the Malaysian GP and kept the team in the running for the titles.
Massa has been hurt the most because of the failing car as he was already struggling before the season even started. Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo warned Massa before the season to come up with the goods or face losing out on his seat for the 2013
season.
So far, Massa has not been able to do much. The latest concluded Bahrain GP was the first race of the season where the Brazilian finished among points by finishing 9th.
On Wednesday the Brazilian tested a minor update package, admitting “the defects are the same,” but he is hopeful Ferrari will improve the car over the next few races.
“We can be sure the other teams have also worked a lot, so if we want to make progress, we will have had to make a significant leap forward in performance terms. It is a very long championship, but we need to make up ground in the next three to five races
if want to achieve our goals and this is a key moment to improve our situation,” he said.
It will be imperative for Massa to perform starting the European leg of the tour which he will be more familiar with in terms of weather conditions and how the tracks behave.
