Felipe Massa laments over tyre failures in Silverstone – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Felipe Massa has called the tyre failures at Silverstone circuit as an unacceptable situation because of which he along with several other drivers faced immense problems.
Massa faced immense problems in the qualifying of the British Grand Prix and failed to make his way into the third session. Later, on the race day, he showed an impressive pace and was well on course for a podium finish. However, his left rear tyre was punctured
due to which he could only secure 6th place finish in the end. On the other hand, his teammate, Fernando Alonso successfully managed to restrict the damage for the Scarlet team by securing third podium finish after starting the race from 10th grid slot.
The Brazilian driver criticised this year’s Pirelli compound tyres a lot and even said that he put his safety in God’s hands during the preceding race. In addition, he said that despite an incredible start, he could not keep up the level of his pace because
of poor tyres and lost the chances of securing a podium finish after the puncture.
“I think what happened today was an unacceptable situation with the tyres; not just with me but with many other cars having a similar issue,” Massa said. “Fortunately nothing really dangerous happened but it was really close. The race today was amazing for
me, I did a fantastic start, had a fantastic first lap, the pace was fantastic, overtaking was fantastic but then I had the problem with tyres which took away the opportunity to finish on the podium. It was really tough because of that but the race was fantastic.”
Besides, he said that it was really hard to drive on track due to debris which made it quite impossible for him to overtake towards the end of the race.
“It's everything, you have a lot of debris on the track as well,” he added.
Currently, he is standing at 7th place in the drivers’ championship with 57 points. Additionally, he is ahead of Paul di Resta of Force India and behind Nico Rosberg of Mercedes. Let’s see how he performs in the German GP this weekend.
