Felipe Massa 'mess' at Japanese Grand Prix
Ferrari driver Felipe Massa has retired from the Japanese Grand Prix after crashing his car on race day. The incident comes as a huge blow for the Brazilian driver as his seat at Scuderia Ferrari alongside teammate Fernando Alonso is now under threat. There
were a lot of rumours that he might lose his seat to Robert Kubica in 2011 but Stefano Domenicalli has denied all such rumours after the Singapore GP.
Sources in the Ferrari camp claim that Felipe Massa has a contract that is waiting for his signature in the 2011 season and the team is not interested for a replacement.
However, it seems that after the poor results that Massa has generated, Ferrari might think twice before handing the Brazilian with another deal. The team has set a standard of producing great drivers, enabling them to score great results and Massa is not
helping at all.
With excuses such as his inability to get used to the cars’ tyres, Massa has got away with every poor result. His actions are a mirror image to his former teammate, the seven time world champion Michael Schumacher.
However, there is a difference between Ferrari and team Mercedes. Therefore, one can believe that Massa might be in some trouble after the poor show at Suzuka. The Brazilian qualified at a disappointing 12th place on the grid and crashed his Ferrari
out of the race.
Many believe that Massa has not been the same after a life threatening accident last season that took him out of the season for more than half the remaining season. Before that, Massa was performing at his best as he finished in second place in the drivers’
standings, just a point behind the former World Champion Lewis Hamilton in the 2008 Formula 1 season.
Since his return to the Formula 1 circuit, Felipe Massa has been the worst of the top 3 running team drivers. He is currently at 6th place behind the top five who are still racing for the title with 3 races to go.
Felipe might be in a lot of trouble after this retirement as Ferrari already seems uncomfortable with the Brazilian since the past couple of races. More importantly, reports have emerged that after such a disastrous season in such a brilliant car, Felipe’s
chances of racing in team Ferrari are now under threat.
