Felipe Massa on Reem Circuit for Philip Morris event
Felipe Massa was in action at the Reem International Circuit, near Riyadh in Saudi Arabia as part of a Philip Morris International promotional event on Thursday.
Philip Morris International is the top international tobacco company, with products sold in approximately 180 countries and the event was organised to promote the company and celebrate its profits.
This was the Brazilian driver’s first visit to the country and the track. Felipe was the star attraction of the event which involved him racing around forty guests in an F430 Challenge around the circuit to experience the exhilarating adventure of speed.
The Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro team principal, Stefano Domenicali was also present at the event.
Felipe’s experience as a chauffeur in the event was unique for a racing driver but he enjoyed the event.
“It’s always nice to visit somewhere new and I’m just sorry I can’t spend more time here. The track is very interesting and fun, so I hope I get a further opportunity to drive here. At the moment, our work in the build up to the start of the World Championship
is intense and so we have to get back to base soon,” he said.
Domenicali added, “Events and venues like these are important to boost motor sport in countries which have only recently embraced it. For Ferrari, the Middle East is a very important market which we watch very carefully.”
Fernando Alonso, Massa’s teammate, was also scheduled to be a part of the event, but he was under the weather and did not make it for the event. Given that he must be ready for the upcoming Barcelona test session, it seems as a reasonable excuse.
