Felipe Massa ready to help Fernando Alonso in final 3 races
Felipe Massa, the Brazilian driver for Ferrari has said that he will do all he can to help his team mate Fernando Alonso in winning the title.
Formula one 2010 season has by far been the most exciting one in recent history, and with just 3 races to go Mark Webber leads the table with 14 points. Fernando Alonso is at par on points with Sebastian Vettel but is ahead due
to more race wins.
Massa said that he will work as hard as he can, and try to keep pace with the 5 title contenders. He added that he may not be in the title race, but helping Fernando winning the championship will be as satisfying as winning the
title for himself. Massa went on to say that every single person in Ferrari team is working hard to get Alonso close to the title, and he is no different. The Brazilian said that if the roles were reversed, he has no doubt that Alonso would have done the same
for him.
There were rumours that there was a rift between the two Ferrari drivers, and the label of number two given to Massa was not well received. The issues surfaced in the German Grand Prix when Felipe Massa was given a coded message
on the team radio to slow down and let Alonso through. Felipe did exactly that and Fernando Alonso ended up winning the race, though Massa had a clear track ahead of him to go on and win the race. Ferrari of course were involved in a big team orders controversy
and were handed a hefty fine by the race stewards. Later on, Ferrari were cleared by the World Motorsport Council, but speculations about a rift between Massa and Alonso kept getting stronger. But Felipe was quick to come out and clarify that he is not at
all bothered by all the rumours and both drivers made it clear that they were on great terms.
Felipe Massa has not been in great form in last 2 races; Massa encountered an unwanted gearbox problem in Singapore during the qualifiers. That meant that he had to start the race at the bottom of the grid. Later on in Japan, the
qualifying session once again did not go too well for him; he crashed right on the first corner and did not make much of an impression on the weekend.
Felipe Massa said that there is also the incentive of getting himself back among points, and of course helping the team and Fernando.
"They are very important for me on a personal level to fight back after the disappointing outcome of the last two races in Japan and Singapore," he said.
"More importantly, I will be trying to bring home a significant number of points to help the Scuderia in its fight for both championships (drivers' and constructors').
Felipe Massa said that another important thing for him is to do well in Korea, so that he will have some form and momentum behind him for the home race in Brazil. The Brazilian Grand Prix will be the second last race of the season,
and Massa said that even though he has not been able to achieve much in the season he will do all he can to put on a show at Sao Paolo.
It was in Brazil where Felipe Massa missed out on winning his first world championship by just one point, it was back in 2008 when Lewis Hamilton won his first title. It was a real heartbreak for Massa and he said that he would
never forget that day, but that is all behind him and all he wants right now is for Fernando to win the title.
