Felipe Massa says Fernando Alonso is the strongest rival – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Felipe Massa has said that his teammate, Fernando Alonso is the strongest rival that he has ever seen in his Formula 1 career so far.
Massa said that he has raced with some of the most amazing drivers in the history of the sport which include the seven-time world champion, Michael Schumacher, the 2007 world championship, Kimi Raikkonen and the 2008 world championship, Lewis Hamilton. However,
he believes that Alonso is the toughest contender he has ever witnessed in all his years in the sport.
"I've always had strong teammates but in the past few years the challenge has been even greater," Massa said Thursday, reports Xinhua. "He (Alonso) is the most difficult driver I have come up against. Lewis Hamilton has also been a strong competitor as have
Kimi Raikkonen and Michael Schumacher."
The Spaniard has performed amazingly well in his career so far. He has won two F1 World Drivers’ Championship titles and has been deemed as one of the most talented drivers in the game.
At present, he is leading the drivers’ championship with 179 points and has a superb lead over his main rivals which mainly include, Hamilton and the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing.
Even though, the Scarlet team has not been able to provide him with the most competent car until now, nonetheless, he has impressed everyone with his tremendous capabilities and skills. He has remarkably limited the damage for his team which expected to
face difficulties in the first few races due to a struggling pre-season testing programme this year.
The current season has been very unpredictable and has brought various surprises for the spectators. Additionally, the competition is severely tough as all the contenders are well prepared and the teams have been keen about their developmental processes.
Meanwhile, the fight for the championship title is still open amongst the top five or six positions according to the team principal of Ferrari, Stefano Domenicali.
Above and beyond, it will be very exciting to see how the 31-year-old performs in the Singapore GP which is to be held at Marina Bay Street Circuit on September 23, 2012.
