Felipe Massa says Ferrari have made good progress in Barcelona test – Formula 1 news
Felipe Massa says that Ferrari have made good progress during the second pre-season test at Barcelona than the first test held at the Jerez circuit, Spain and he is very delighted with the performance of the car so far.
Massa expressed his confidence and said that the team is very much ready for the upcoming 2012 Formula 1 season.
Ferrari was still collecting the data about the aerodynamics and the sensors of the new car at end the first test when its rivals had already started to focus on the race simulations.
Moreover, after testing the car for four days, from Tuesday to Friday in the first test, Fernando Alonso said that the car is still facing some difficulties and the team has only created around 20% understanding of the new car.
However, Massa asserted that he is very pleased because performance of the car is improving after testing the car on the second day of test after Alonso.
“The car is definitely better compared to Jerez and we are beginning to define how we must move forward to continue to improve,” Massa said. “I ran all the time on the hardest tyres and I am reasonably pleased with the work we did. Tomorrow, I will try the
other compounds and we will work on fine tuning the car.”
After making complete analysis of the car during the test, Massa finally believes that the difficulties that the car has been facing will end soon and the team can see some light at the end of the tunnel.
However, Massa said that the car is still facing some reliability issues and thinks that the team should start working on these issues in order to match the mileage of the car with its contenders in the upcoming season.
“It will be important to do a lot of kilometres over these final five days to be as well prepared as possible for the first race of the season,” said Massa.
Furthermore, there has been a revision in the Ferrari’s plan for the next week. The team has decided to conduct the test with Red Bull from Friday to Monday. Massa will be test driving on Friday and Sunday whereas Alonso will be testing the car on Saturday
and Monday.
