Felipe Massa says driving a Ferrari is a lot of pressure in itself – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Felipe Massa has said that driving a Formula 1 car with a top team like Ferrari is a lot of pressure in itself.
The Brazilian added that Ferrari are being followed by many teams across the globe and that creates pressure and he enjoys driving under such stress.
After having an average 2010 Formula 1 season with Ferrari and also a below par performance in the opening part of the 2011 Formula 1 season, it is suspected that Massa will be let go from the Ferrari team for the 2012 season.
However, Massa is not taking any stress of the recent talks and stated, “It [Ferrari] is a team which many people are watching and supporting, so it is normal that you have more pressure - but I think most of the drivers would like to have this kind of pressure,
to be racing for Ferrari, so that is a good pressure.”
Massa has been unable to complete two of the eight races of the 2011 Formula 1 season thereby jeopardising the chances of Ferrari towards the constructors’ championship.
The Brazilian faced some downforce problems in the Spanish Grand Prix and stopped off track in the final stages of the race. Then in Monaco, Massa crashed in the tunnel and wasted another opportunity in the Scarlet car.
This provoked the media to state that Massa will be let go from the legendary team. As his replacement, McLaren’s Jenson Button was the one thought to be joining the Scarlet team for the 2012 season.
Nevertheless, Massa is with the Ferrari team for the 2011 season and he will have plenty of chances to prove himself.
Talking about the Silverstone race, Massa stated, “Silverstone is a great track, and one of the most famous races. We really enjoy coming here. Even if there are some British teams, people really support Ferrari. Maybe we will see some showers around, but
hopefully we can have a good weekend and be competitive.”
The action from Silverstone begins Friday, July 8, 2011 with the free practice sessions.
