Felipe Massa says he is motivated for a comeback in 2013 – Formula 1 news
Ferrari’s Felipe Massa has stated that he is very motivated to perform well during the 2013 F1 season following his improved pace towards the end of the 2012 F1 season.
Massa was talking at the Christmas celebrations of Ferrari and he said that he wants to return to the event next year to celebrate even a better performance.
“This has been a very difficult year for me, especially at the start, when we couldn't find the right way to move forward with our car,” Massa said. “The second part was very different: I was more competitive and, thanks to the strength I got from all of
you, I managed to get back to the way I was before. Now I am more motivated than ever: the second part of the season was like a training session for next year. In 2013, I really want to come back to this event to celebrate something even better together with
all of you!”
At the same event, Ferrari boss, Luca di Montezemolo, told Massa that he does not know what happened to him during the first half of the season but he is very happy that the driver has returned back with good performance.
Massa could not perform well as the 2012 F1 season began. The driver was put under much pressure as his lack of pace led to the team speculating about dropping him for 2013. However, after some time, Massa started to improve and was ultimately confirmed
by Ferrari for another year. Montezemolo had stated that he believes Massa will certainly pay back on their trust. Massa himself stated that he was too worried about next year’s contract which hindered his performance. After the confirmation of the deal, Massa’s
qualifying pace improved greatly and was in fact better than his championship running teammate, Fernando Alonso.
During the season ending Grand Prix in Brazil, which is also Massa’s hometown, he finished on the podium behind Alonso’s second place and became quite emotional.
Although Alonso took the fight for the title right until the end but lost to Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel by three points. Ferrari came second in the constructors’ title.
