Felipe Massa still unsure about Ferrari’s position in 2011 Formula 1 season
Formula 1 Ferrari driver Felipe Massa has recently updated the media that he completely learnt the advanced features of the car over the winter testing but he is still not able to predict their position in the upcoming season.
He also mentioned, no doubt the team introduced the good package this year and it is expected that it will give positive run for the team in its races.
The Brazilian driver was busy focusing on the 2011 car reliability during the test sessions while he pointed out the aerodynamic issues of his car at the final Barcelona test.
Massa said that the 150° Italia pace is less compared to the other strong F1 rivals. He added that he is ready to face all strong contenders of Formula 1, with his new package moreover, whole team is in good form to compete, in the 2011 season.
He went on to say, “The car appears to be reliable, but on its own this is not enough as the car needs to be quick too. For the moment, reliability has been good and I don't think we can complain about performance, but we won't have a clear picture until
all the teams are together on track in Melbourne.”
With regards to tyres, Massa believed that degradation issue will make the initial races very difficult.
He said, “With the high degradation we are seeing, the races will be very different and we will need to pit several times, whereas last year many races needed just one stop. It will also be interesting to see how the tyres operate when we reach the warmer
countries although, maybe not Australia, as it is not expected to be so hot in Melbourne next week.”
He explained, getting to know the Pirelli tyres performance, winter testing was the best example. Due to complicated tyres situation, the team would have to attend the more pit stops compared to last year. Also, drivers have to apply the best strategy during
the race and try to overcome the stops per race.
Too many pit stops during the race may make the season more interesting and exciting for Formula 1 fans.
