Felipe Massa thinks Fernando Alonso will need him in later part of the season – Formula 1 news
Felipe Massa believes that the Fernando Alonso will need his support to win constructors’ championship for Ferrari in the current season.
Massa said that winning the championship without his support will be a difficult task for Alonso alone, therefore both cars should be scoring points if they wanted to compete with Red Bull Racing, which is 53 points ahead of Ferrari.
He said, “Sure, Fernando needs me. In a championship like this, it is very important to have both cars scoring points.”
Furthermore, he said that the current season is getting more and more competitive and every grand prix is important and every single point matters.
The Brazilian added, “This year it is so competitive between many drivers, many teams, so you know how important every result is. It is a championship that maybe one point can be enough to win or lose. Every race will be important [in the championship],
from now until the last one," he said. "We need to keep working like we were doing in the last few races and improving the car, and then Fernando has even more chance to fight until the last race.”
Massa further said that he was not comfortable at the beginning of the season but now he is coming to terms with the F2012. He added that his performance was not affected due to lack of pace but it was due to a crash in the beginning.
Furthermore, Massa is of the view that they should keep improving the car, along with working together. This upgradation will be fruitful for Ferrari as they might be in with a chance to win the championship in the current season.
However, the Brazilian driver was not able to depict an impressive performance in German Grand Prix at Hockenheim, after facing a front wing incident during the first lap. He started off at 13th grid position and finished the grand prix at 12th place.
Hence, he was unable to score any point last Sunday. Currently he has 23 points in the drivers’ championship and holds 14th place.
