Felipe Massa to have new chassis at 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Felipe Massa will be with new chassis at 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix, to be held at Sepang International Circuit this weekend, after his unfortunate performance at the season opener at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia last week.
Massa struggled in the first race due to the excessive tyre wear and retired after the clash with Williams’ driver, Bruno Senna while he was fighting for the 13th position.
However, Massa’s teammate, Fernando Alonso showed quite an impressive performance and was able to secure fifth position.
The Scarlet team had announced that Massa would get a new chassis which would clear the doubts regarding the strange performance of the car at the first race on Sunday.
“For example work has already begun in the Sepang pits to prepare chassis number 294, which replaces the number 293 and will be used by the Brazilian in the second race of the season. This choice was taken to clear up any doubts about the unusual performance
of his car during the weekend at Albert Park,” an article on the official Ferrari website read.
In addition, Massa said that he had a very poor weekend in Australia. Moreover, Massa had blamed Ferrari for his bad performance in the first GP which according to him was caused due to poor balancing of the car.
“Already yesterday I suffered because the car was badly balanced and today, it was probably even worse, because after a few laps I was struggling with the tyres,” said Massa.
It would be important to mention that the Red team had been struggling with the new car F2012 during this year’s pre-season tests.
Additionally, the technical director of Ferrari, Pat Fry expressed that they would not be able to fight for the podium at the first race, after the last test which was held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona.
Nonetheless, the Spaniard, Alonso, after passing some changing statements, said that he felt relaxed and prepared for the first race while he said that they would try to assess their position after the first race to make the necessary preparations for the
season ahead.
