Felipe Massa upbeat about Ferrari’s progress in Turkey: Formula 1 News
Ferrari's driver, Felipe Massa has said that he is happy with his team’s progress, which they made in the recent Turkish race. Although, he had a disappointing race weekend in Istanbul, but he was pleased about the Ferrari’s positive step forward to its
success.
The Brazilian finished his race in Turkey at the eleventh place, due to many issues during his pit stops. Despite his poor race result, he was upbeat due to his team-mate Fernando Alonso’s performance, as he completed his third podium place for the team.
The team had a very tough start in the ongoing season, as both the drivers failed to deliver their best run against the others strong rivals of Formula 1.
After the China race, the team was busy working on the wind tunnel system of ‘150 Italia’ car. However, the Turkish upgrades in Ferrari’s machine provided very positive results to the team, as a new programme always brings some changes in car’s running.
Massa, a three-time winner in Turkey track has said, "I ended up eleventh, when I could have been challenging for fourth place and that was mainly down to poor pit stops. The aero updates we ran for the first time at this race definitely increased our performance
level as can be seen from the fact that Fernando secured Ferrari's first podium finish of the year."
Ferrari had a difficult qualifying round in Turkish Grand Prix. Massa added that he did not bother to make his second attempt in Q3 to save sets of tyres. He admitted that the team struggled less in qualifying round but on Sunday race they showed their bigger
step towards its success.
The 30-year-old driver lost much time in three of his four stops, however he requested his team to fix all those issues, which were hindering his progress in the race.
He went on to add, “I would say I had a few too many [problems], because without them I was definitely heading for a top five finish. This was frustrating for me and for the team. We do a lot of pitstop practice, but that Sunday it just did not work properly.”
The analysis of the race showed that the team will have to study all problems, which they had in previous races and try to be more consistent in the up-coming races of 2011 season.
On the other hand, Alonso is bit happy with his current race condition. After the Turkey race, he a podium finish in every remaining race of this season.
The next Formula 1 race, the Spanish Grand Prix, is scheduled to be held on May 22, at the Circuit de Catalunya track in Spain.
