Felipe Massa works away at Ferrari’s base in Maranello to improve his 2012 season – Formula 1
Felipe Massa has been working at the Ferrari factory in Maranello this past week to find a proper solution to his problems for 2012 season.
The first two races of the season, the Australian and the Malaysian Grand Prix ended with horrendous results for the Brazilian. The reason may be the car he is driving the F2012 which has been marred by technical difficulties since the pre-season tests.
Although Ferrari have not quite been successful at clearing all the technical difficulties in the car, but Massa’s teammate Fernando Alonso has once again stood up against all odds to stand tall and win the Malaysian Grand Prix, a feat which was unthinkable
considering the woes Ferrari have been going through.
None of the followers and the gurus of the sport gave any chance or let alone talked about any chances from the Ferrari camp to come up with a win.
Massa has found himself at the receiving end of all the criticism since his return from a major accident in 2009 which nearly ended his career. The steak of poor performance lead Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo to warn Massa to either perform in the
2012 season or face losing his race seat.
Massa had vowed to improve on his performances in the current season, but has had the worst of luck since the season began. Poor luck coupled with poorly judged driving has cost Massa dearly but he is on the right track to redemption if he is capable of
pulling it off, he can only do it by practicing and working hard to find solutions.
The Brazilian has been doing exactly that at Ferrari’s base.
“I met my engineer Rob Smedley and I spent a lot of time with [technical director] Pat Fry, going over everything that happened, because this is the only way I think we can understand the reasons behind these two bad weekends,” he wrote in his blog on the
Ferrari website. “I am disappointed, there is no denying it: not scoring any points in two races hurts, but now it's time to turn the page.”
Massa feels that the car will improve in the upcoming races, and the gap between Ferrari and the current season leaders McLaren and Red Bull will close up.
It will be interesting to see how Massa fares as the season progresses.
