Felipe Massa’s future ‘secure’ with Ferrari - Formula 1 News
Formula 1 Ferrari’s president, Luca di montezemolo, has said that Felipe Massa would definitely be a part of his team, until the end of 2012 season. Due to his fine start in the 2011 season, the team has confirmed Massa’s race seat with team-mate Fernando
Alonso, for the next season’s races also.
According to some sources, Ferrari was fined $100,000 in 2010 for breaking Sporting rules. Other than that, there were wide-spread of rumours about Massa’s disappointing performance in 2010 and that he will move to another team, if he was again unable to
perform next season with the Maranello-based outfit.
Despite of the Brazilian’s rumours to switch to another team, he started his driving for Scuderia-Ferrari this year. He kicked-off to a poor start in the ongoing season, qualifying eighth at the Australian Grand Prix. After that, the Malaysian Grand Prix
saw a better performance from the 30-year-old, as he successfully finished his both Friday practice session and qualifying round, to start his race at seventh place on the grid. He really worked hard over the race and ended his course at the fifth place for
the team.
In the Chinese race, the 2008 driver’s world champion tried to finish his sixth place for the team, despite the un-supportive role of his ‘150 Italia’ car.
In the recent Turkish race weekend, Ferrari delivered several updates to their cars, as they wanted to put in a positive effort towards their season’s success. The Brazilian failed to retain his previous position in Istanbul race, due to the less pace of
his car. Team-mate, Alonso made an impressive run on the race track, as he successfully finished his first podium place in the season for Ferrari.
Before the start of the season, the team was interested to replace Massa with Mercedes driver, Nico Rosberg or with Red Bull’s Mark Webber. After Massa impressed his team with his good performance, Ferrari have reserved his race seat for the next year.
Due to his good show this season, di montezemolo announced that Massa will move on the grid with his current team ‘Ferrari’ this year and next year also. The decision dismisses rumours that he could move to another outfit in the 2012 Formula 1 race season.
On the other hand, Montezemolo wants to have a long time with his driver, Alonso, as he considers him a very strong competitor and one of the best drivers of Formula 1 sport, with a very strong ‘mind’.
After four races of this season, Ferrari wants their race victory in the remaining races. The fifth race weekend will take place on May 22, at the Circuit de Catalunya, in Spain.
