Felipe Salguero: My winning mentality will aid me in nailing Donnie Nietes – Boxing news
Felipe Salguero, the current World Boxing Federation light flyweight champion, in a recent interview shared his thoughts about Donnie Nietes, his upcoming opponent, and commented that his winning mentality will help him out in nailing the champion adding
that he knows Donnie and his brawling style very well.
Donnie is scheduled to defend his WBO light flyweight title against Felipe in a bout which will headline the pay-per-view organised and promoted by Michael Aldeguer of ALA Promotions.
The showdown will be co-headlined by another championship bout between Genesis Servania and Genaro Garcia with the vacant WBC International Silver super bantamweight title up for grabs.
The ring for the extravaganza will be set up at Resorts World Hotel and Casino in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines and the event will be televised live on Saturday June 2, 2012.
Felipe recently attended a pre-bout press conference and shared his thoughts about Donnie in detail while discussing his tactics as to how will he handle the heavily experienced champion.
Salguero has been in a total 19 bouts and emerged victorious in 16. The Mexican proud has nailed 11 of his total opponents by knockout and possesses a decent fist that can produce lethal jabs.
During the media interaction, Felipe did not show any kind of intimidation rather was confident and stated, “My advantage against Nietes is my hungry for glory. I want to become a world champion. I want to take that world title to Mexico. That is my advantage:
my winning mentality. I feel a winning mind set. Plus, I know Donnie Nietes very well.”
It must be noted that Felipe is entering in his career’s toughest bout as he has never taken on a pugilist with such hefty experience. Donnie, 30, boasts 29 wins in a total 33 bouts and has nailed 16 of his opponents by sheer knockout.
Despite the fact that Felipe is seriously outclassed by the champion’s experience, win and knockout proficiency, the Mexican proud believes that he knows his opponent well and this facet will help him in winning the brawl.
Felipe stated, “I saw him in action in his twelve rounds against Dragoncito. I know how he fights. I’ve analyzed his style. I think I know him. Maybe he doesn’t know me or what kind of danger I bring for him, he might realize when it’s too late.”
The odds undoubtedly are in favour of the champion Donnie but if Felipe grabs a win he will not only have the apex divisional title round his waist but it will also move him up substantially in the world rankings.
