Felix Doubront shines as Boston Red Sox hammer Chicago White Sox 10-1 – MLB Update
Felix Doubront put up another dominant show as the Boston Red Sox hammered the visiting Chicago White Sox 10-1 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Wednesday, July 18 in third game of their four match series.
Doubront led the pitching attack in an electrifying fashion for the Red Sox. After pitching six effective innings, he headed towards the dugout and received a standing ovation from the crowd.
The starting pitcher showed just what he is capable of on the mound as he gave up just four hits and a single, lifting his team to a much needed victory. Relief pitcher Matt Albers and Andrew Miller also displayed some top quality throwing skills as they
combined to pitch two scoreless innings.
Credit should also be given to the Red Sox offence that scored runs at regular intervals. After Chicago took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, Adrian Gonzalez secured an RBI single to left to level the score 1-1.
"We've been scoring runs with guys on the disabled list and different lineups," Boston manager Bobby Valentine said.
Right-fielder Cody Ross looked pretty comfortable on the plate as he improved his average to .269 with two mighty home-runs in the third and the fourth.
"Obviously, Cody Ross had a big night there," Chicago’s first baseman Paul Konerko said. "Got a couple pitches to hit and didn't miss them."
First baseman Gonzalez finished the game with three hits that included a solo home-run in the fourth.
"When you have the guys on base and you have the heart of the order coming up, that puts a lot of pressure on the pitcher," Ross said. "Any time you lose a David Ortiz it's tough to make up for. No one can replace David Ortiz, he's one of the best hitters
in the game."
Chicago’s starting pitcher Pedro Hernandez took a beating as he allowed 12 hits and eight runs in just four innings.
Red Sox, who were annihilated in the previous meeting between the two sides, raised their game to a higher level on Wednesday to take an impassable 2-1 series lead.
