Felix Hernandez help Seattle Mariners crush Texas Rangers 6-1 – MLB Update
Seattle Mariners finally managed to execute their game plan to perfection as they crushed Texas Rangers 6-1 at Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington on Monday, May 21 in first game of their three game matchup of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Seattle improved their record to 20-24 on Monday evening and credit must be given to the starting pitcher Felix Hernandez for the way he pitched in a pressure game.
The starter has the ability to change the picture of the game by himself. He allowed only six hits, struck out seven and walked two to take the shutout into the eighth inning.
Ichiro Suzuki displayed some top quality hitting skills with two hits in the first three innings to help the Mariners take 3-0 lead. Jesus Montero and Dustin Ackley also played a key role in deciding the outcome of the game.
"Attack and just throw strikes," Hernandez said. "If you get behind against this lineup, it's a problem."
"He can throw anything at any time, obviously has a good arm and keeps the ball down for the most part," Seattle manager Eric Wedge said. "But you really have to tip your hat to our guys, offensively. Our guys went up there, made him come into the zone."
"I was apologetic. I wasn't able to go deep in the game as a starter should," Yu Darvish said. "Giving up those runs with only four hits; overall the approach and substance wasn't that good."
The win will be of great importance for the Mariners who have been struggling to give consistent results since the start of the season. Beating one of the strongest teams in the American League, they will be feeling very confident about their game play right
now. However, they should be aware of Texas’ fight back in the second game.
The Rangers have one of the most productive offensive and defensive lineups in MLB right now. They have the ability to deliver the goods under pressure and it should not be surprise to the MLB followers if the Rangers level series with a win in the second
game.
