Felix Hernandez pitches well for the Seattle Mariners, but fails to pop up win
The Seattle Mariners did their best in their recent encounter with the high powered Texas Rangers in the American League. Going into their third encounter of the series, the visiting team was not able to do anything significant beyond the sixth inning, as
the 2010 American League Champions pulled out a vital win of the season.
The Mariners lost the game 3 – 7 but their biggest problem came in the form of a weak bullpen. Felix Hernandez did his best against first choice Rangers’ pitcher, C. J. Wilson. Long erroneous throws from Mariners’ second baseman, Jack Wilson allowed the
hosts to score two runs. Hernandez was, unfortunately, the recipient of the runs that were allowed by the team.
Nevertheless, the game still looked good for both teams as the Rangers were level with the Mariners, at the end of the sixth inning. Unfortunately, Wilson had the upper hand in the seventh inning, as he finished his session with 3 runs allowed, while David
Murphy extended Hernandez’s concession to four runs with a scoring run off Mitch Moreland’s double to the right.
The Rangers were always going to be the favourites in Arlington. They were 5 – 0 in their wins tally for the season before the game and have the biggest hitting order on the card. Hernandez tried his best to deal with the situation.
"It was the wind first, I couldn't get my balance. But after that I felt good. All the pitchers were working," Hernandez said. "I know they're gonna swing anyway, so I just have to make good pitches. It was pretty good today, I got seven innings."
While the Seattle hurler availed two runs in his seven innings stint against the Rangers, he was still awarded with a loss, as C. J. Wilson was able to keep his concession tally down. He picked up his first loss of the season with a 2.25 earning runs average.
Furthermore, he struck six batters out and allowed three walks in the competition. If Jack Wilson failed to commit errors, the pitcher may have picked up a win today.
