in the opening fixture.
Magath admitted that it was a very poor display from his side. He insisted that the team started the proceedings well with a win over Stuttgart and the fans had expected another good performance from the team. However, the defeat
has left many supporters frustrated and the manager has called for calm after the shock display.
The former Schalke boss apologised to the fans for the team’s poor performance and admitted that his side was below par in the game against Hannover. He added that there were too many mistakes from the players throughout the course
of the game which led to the goals.
“We had high hopes and the team was desperately keen on starting the season well at home after the win away from home so that they could impress the spectators. I have to apologise to all of the fans and spectators. We were inferior
right from the start and the goals were inevitable,” the tactician was quoted as saying in an interview to the club’s website.
On the other hand, Hannover boss Mirko Slomka hailed his side for the sensational showing in the game. He admitted that his side outclassed Wolfsburg in every aspect and is hopeful that his team carries on with the impressive form
in the future games.
“At the moment, all of our passes and shots are coming off. We are playing with a very flexible formation and this is making us hard to fathom for our opponents,” Slomka added.
Wolfsburg will next face FC Augsburg in an away game on Friday, September 14, whereas Hannover 96 will play hosts to Werder Bremen on Saturday, September 15, in their next respective league games.
