Felix Magath has signed a two-year extension to his existing contract and will now remain at the club until 2015. The manager’s current deal was set to end at the end of next season which is why the former Bundesliga champions
have tied down the tactician for another two campaigns.
The former Schalke manager guided the club to an impressive eighth place finish in the previous campaign and the team finished with 44 points from the 34 games played. His arrival at the Volkswagen Arena saw a series of improved
performances from the team and Wolfsburg were unfortunate to miss out on a UEFA Europa League place for next season.
Club chairman Dr. Francisco Javier Garcia Sanz claimed that the club is impressed by the impact Magath made last season which is why they were keen to offer him a new contract. He admitted that the club is behind Magath and are
confident that the manager will keep producing the results.
“We believe in continuity and with Magath we are on the right track. Under him the club had its most successful period. The early contract extension is an expression of our confidence,” he was quoted as saying to the club’s official
website.
The chief is confident that the manager will help the club in achieving goals for the future. He insisted that the side is targeting a place in Europe next season and want to be finishing in the top six on a regular basis.
“With Felix Magath we can achieve both our short-term goals, such as the battle for European Cup places next year, as well as take the long-term view. VfL want to be a club that is consistently in the upper third of the league,”
he concluded.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VfL-Wolfsburg-c40881 won their only Bundesliga title under Felix Magath back in 2009, beating Bayern Munich by a mere two points. The manager has also won two league titles and a German Cup as the manager of Bayern Munich.
