The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VfL-Wolfsburg-c40881 manager has expressed his anger at the under-performing Greek international, and hinted at the defender’s departure in January transfer window.
Magath reckons that the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 sweeper has failed to live up to the expectations and should find a new club for himself at the end of this campaign.
The manager believes that the centre back has disappointed everyone with his displays at the Volkswagen Arena, and will not be considered for any future assignment.
When asked about his experience with the central defender, the former Schalke boss stated that the 32-year-old was brought in as a cover for his team’s defensive woes, but he has found it hard to settle in German conditions.
In the wake of his poor form, Kyrgiakos was relegated to the reserves squad in October and has not featured for the first-team since then. It is highly likely that the player will part ways with Die Wolfe in the January transfer
window.
While talking to Wolfsburger Allgerneine, Magath said,
"I had signed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sotirios-Kyrgiakos-c33831 with great hope. He never lived up to expectations simply because he was never ready to fulfil the role of a leader in the group. I had thought that he would be looking forward to do so."
Having witnessed a difficult campaign at Liverpool last season, the Greek defender has run out of favours in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904, too. There is a great likelihood of the player reuniting with his former club, Panathinaikos, where he spent
seven years. The centre-back managed to make only 60 league appearances during his five-year stay with the Greek side.
Since landing at the Volkswagen Arena in 2011, Kyrgiakos has made seven league appearances for the club until now.
The player managed 30 league appearances for Liverpool during his two-year stint in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749. He also bagged three goals during the process.
Kyrgiakos has also represented Agios Nikolaos, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Greece-c2908 debut in 2002 and made 61 international caps for his country, netting four goals in return. He ended his international
career in 2010.
