Felix Sturm: If Matthew Macklin feels he is good, he will sign the contract and prove it – Boxing news
The current World Boxing Association’s Middleweight World Champion Felix Sturm is not happy with Matthew Macklin’s camp, as they have not signed a contract for their rematch as of yet.
The 32-year-old German pugilist of Bosnian descent Felix Sturm recently secured a split points victory by the score-line of 116-112, 116-112 and 113-115 over Matthew ‘The Knife’ Macklin in Germany after 12 rounds of cutthroat competition to defend his WBA middleweight
title.
Since it was a split decision, Macklin’s camp was not happy with the decision as they believed their fighter won the fight. Therefore they straightaway demanded for a rematch and Sturm also agreed to give his opponent another chance.
However the British-Irish boxer Matthew, who was desperate for a rematch, has still not signed the contract and Sturm reckons the reason behind is that Macklin knows he cannot win.
Sturm, who has won 36 of his 39 professional fights including 15 by the way of a knockout, told the media Macklin knows he cannot win in a rematch. He also claimed Matthew did not fight a clean fight with him, as he said Matthew was using his head a lot
while coming forward.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “I think they know they won’t have as much success with their tactics anymore. I watched the fight twice or three times and just then I noticed how much he used his head while coming forward. He wasn’t fighting a
clean fight and I’m sure they know they won’t get through with this in a rematch.”
In the end, Sturm remarked if Matthew really believes he was robbed against him he should sign the contract so that he proves it in the ring.
Sturm added, “I don’t want to take anything away from Macklin, he is great and courageous fighter. But if he really feels as great and good enough to beat me, like he repeatedly told anyone who would listen, he’ll sign the contract and prove it inside the
ring.”
